The Mood and Anxiety Disorders
Research Group (MADRG) is a multidisciplinary clinical research group comprised
of several psychologists and psychiatrists located at the two main teaching
hospitals in Winnipeg. This includes the
Mood Disorders Clinic at the Health Sciences Centre and the Anxiety Disorders
Clinic at St. Boniface General Hospital. The group received official
designation as a Research Group in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manitoba
in 1997. In addition to the faculty members, MAD has graduate student
representation from the Departments of Psychology, Psychiatry, and Community
Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba. <>The MADRG is actively involved in a
number of local, national and international research projects covering a wide
range of topics in mood disorders and anxiety disorders. The group has
several ongoing treatment outcome studies concentrating on cognitive-behavior
therapy, pharmacotherapy, and combination treatments. Current research
interests are many and varied and range from neuroimaging research to cognitive
and childhood risk factors to psychiatric epidemiology. A variety of clinical
problems are addressed such as depression, social anxiety, panic disorder,
insomnia, problem gambling, and intense illness worry. Many projects have
received financial support either from government granting agencies or from
private industry.
