James A. Richardson donated the Mozart Shield to the Winnipeg Music Festival in 1929. This shield was originally awarded annually for the most outstanding performance by a Grade 4 Public School Classroom Choir. From 1997 until 2005, this shield was awarded annually for the most outstanding performance by a School Classroom Choir, Creative, Kindergarten to Grade 6. The shield is currently awarded for the most outstanding performance by a School Classroom Choir, Action Songs and Singing Games, Kindergarten to Grade 3.
