The St. Andrew's Society donated the Lord Tweedsmuir Memorial Trophy to the Winnipeg Music Festival in 1941. The trophy was originally awarded annually for the most outstanding performance by an Adult Church Choir. It is currently awarded for the most outstanding performance by a Children’s Community Choir, 12 years and under.
John Buchan was born in 1875 and died in 1940. Mr. Buchan was the author of a number of biographies and historical works. He became Baron Tweedsmuir in 1935, and served as Governor General of Canada from 1935 to 1940. Lord Tweedsmuir was the author of a number of biographies and historical works, including "A History of the Great War", as well as a long series of novels and romances. One of his final books was his autobiography, "Memory Hold the Door".
