The Winnipeg Classical Guitar Society (WCGS), founded in 1983, is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to promoting the classical guitar in Winnipeg. The WCGS organizes an annual “international artists” concert series, bringing world-renowned artists to our community to perform and to give masterclasses and workshops to students of both the University of Manitoba’s Marcel A. Desautels Faculty of Music and the Manitoba Conservatory of Music and Arts. The WCGS works with several local community schools in an outreach program, bringing the international artists into the local schools for performances and to meet as well as inspire the students. The WCGS also organizes a local artist concert series of both solo and chamber performances.
Len Hew is a senior classical guitarist and a supporting member of the Winnipeg Classical Guitar Society. He and his wife Cora are retired Manitoba school teachers who head the Yunnan Project Hope of Canada Inc. In 2008, the WCGS donated the "Len Hew Trophy" to the Winnipeg Music Festival to be awarded to an outstanding senior classical guitarist chosen by the WMF classical guitar adjudicator.
