WINNIPEG CLASSICAL GUITAR SOCIETY DAVID BELLAN TROPHY

WCGS David Bellan Trophy

The Winnipeg Classical Guitar Society (WCGS), founded in 1983, is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to promoting the classical guitar in Winnipeg.  The WCGS organizes an annual “international artists” concert series, bringing world-renowned artists to our community to perform and to give masterclasses and workshops to students of both the University of Manitoba’s Marcel A. Desautels Faculty of Music and the Manitoba Conservatory of Music and Arts.  The WCGS works with several local community schools in an outreach program, bringing the international artists into the local schools for performances and to meet as well as inspire the students.  The WCGS also organizes a local artist concert series of both solo and chamber performances.

The late David Bellan was a outstanding classical guitarist from Winnipeg and an inspirational teacher.  His family and friends have made generous donations to the WCGS in his memory.  In 2008, the WCGS donated a "David Bellan Trophy" to the Winnipeg Music Festival to be awarded to an outstanding school classical guitar orchestra chosen by the WMF classical guitar adjudicator.
