Call or Visit Mark for the latest snowkiting information. 77-boost A few facts about winter kiting: - Skis work, snowboards work - the technique when using a snowboard is the same as when using a board in the water - so a snowboard is perfect cross-training for summer. Skis are fast - real fast - and fast = big jumps - Foil kites, standard LEI kites (leading edge inflatable) & Peter Lynn ARC's all work on snow - LEI's are very hard (close to impossible) to re-launch on the snow unless a 5th line is added OR you get a Slingshot kite with the "Auto-Pilot" or "ATL" system - ARC's work well but can be hard (& slower) to launch BUT are very stable and re-launch well - depowerable foils launch quickly and are easily re-launched on the snow, BUT the "bow" style kites offer the best performance and ease of use and are the choice for most local riders. - All kiters should wear a helmet and padding - the ground is frozen and the snow cover is often thin - so the ground is hard. I personally wear a full face helmet, knee pads and boardercross shorts (padded shorts with hip and tailbone protection). We have padded shorts, knee pads, elbow pads, back protection and a selection of helmets in stock now! - Any snowboard will work - somewhere around 155cm is ideal for most people - the cheap one work well - most of us use the "$99 special" - the fields are hard on the boards so leave that new $600 deck at home. Any skis will work too - don't go too long until you get the hang of using the kite. - Very little wind (15km/h) is needed to kite on the snow. - Any large open field works for snowkiting - but make sure to get permission from the land owner before using. - Kiting is a strenuous activity - you will sweat - so dress in layers
See you on the snow Chris |
