    A Brief History

Started by Rev. Arthur Louis in 1966 and officially established in early 1967, WCAC is the second Chinese Alliance Church in Canada. We began as a congregation of 26, consisting mainly of students and immigrant families. By 1969 the congregation grew to 100 with Sunday School attendance reaching 93. With the rapid growth in numbers we had to move twice in the 1970’s but our numbers continued to grow so that in 1982 we moved to our current location.

The congregation has now changed from being predominately students from Hong Kong to one with people from all backgrounds and walks of life: students, professionals, adults, the elderly, and children.

Our past has been one of God’s grace and abundant love and we look forward to many more years of His glory.

    The Christian and Missionary Alliance

The church is a member of the Canadian Chinese Alliance Churches Association (CCACA) and the Christian & Missionary Alliance (C&MA) of Canada.

The C&MA has a strong emphasis in the deeper Christian life and the spread of the Good News of Jesus Christ through Missions and Evangelism. Our belief focuses on Jesus Christ as being our Saviour, Sanctifier, Healer and Coming King.

We believe in the Bible as the inspired word of God, and it is authoritative and applicable to the life of all people.

A copy of the C&MA Statement of Faith is available upon request.

    A Word from the Pastor
    Rev. Steven Hoffman (English Ministries)

Thank you for coming to our church. We are a unique church in the city in that we have services for Cantonese, English, and Mandarin speaking people as well as a service for children. We believe that this linguistic, ethnic, and age diversity is a tiny foretaste of heaven which the Apostle John writes about in his vision recorded in Revelation 7:9:

"I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb."

We have Sunday School for all ages, numerous youth groups, prayer groups, and small groups that meet during the week which we would love for you to be a part of.

Again, thank you for coming and joining us for worship today. If you want to find out more about our church and various activities call us at 772-0917 during business hours.

Sincerely, Rev. Steve Hoffman Pastor of English Ministries

    Worship

Worship is a time when we come to reflect our lives from God’s perspective. So often, in our daily grind, we can only see the circumstances surrounding us. We can easily lose focus. How can we regain our focus? During worship, we realign our sights and look at our circumstances from His eternal perspective. Through singing of praises and thanksgiving, through studying of God’s word, through reflection of who God is, we regain our focus.

We are instructed to worship God in spirit and in truth. We come without pretence, to rest, to restore and to regain our strength in His presence. When we worship with other believers, we are being encouraged and being supported through prayer by one another.

Come, join us for a time of refreshing each week!

    Training Ground & Common Ground

For centuries humans have pursued knowledge with a fervour for power and respect. The pursuit of knowledge is also encouraged in the Bible. “May grace and peace be yours in abundance through the full knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord!” (2 Peter 1:2). The application of this truth will also bring forth power. That is power to save, to have peace and eternal hope.

We provide classes for grades 7-8, grades 9-10 and adult. These classes study and broad range of topics, from Biblical studies to Christian living, and are open to all. The teaching is designed to stimulate discussion and personal reflection.

English Sunday school begins at 11:00 a.m. after the English Service. Come and join us, you’ll be glad you did!

    Chinese Ministries
    Rev. Deyi Wei (Mandarin Pastor)

The Chinese ministries consists of the Cantonese and Mandarin congregations, with people from Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, and other Asian countries – people whose mother tongues include Cantonese, Mandarin, plus some other dialects.

Through worship, fellowship, and teaching ministries, our goal is to provide an environment for Chinese speaking believers to worship and grow spiritually in their knowledge of God through his Word.

    Children's Ministry

Children are special at WCAC! We want to take care of the special blessing God gives us in the children of our church, so we provide programs for ages 3 through grade 6.  Together with the family, we aim lead children into a lasting and real relationship with Jesus, and challenge them to grow as his disciples.  This is accomplished through age-appropriate activities, songs, Bible lessons, interactive and small group learning.

    Youth Fellowships and Small Groups

The WCAC has many programs for youth from grade 7 up to and including university students.

There are currently two fellowships that meet every Friday at 7:30pm at the church. The Ahaba/GCY (God Centred Youth) group is for the junior high and high school students, while TUG (The University Group) , is geared toward university students and recent graduates.

These groups have praise and worship times, Bible studies, outreach nights, coffee houses and many other formatted meetings.

Come on out to meet people your age and see how God fits in your lives!

    Outreach and Caring

The Purpose of Outreach and Caring at WCAC is best reflected in Matthew 5:16:

“In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

As followers of Jesus, we believe that a personal and corporate commitment to be God-centred and others- centred must at the core of our capacity to reach out to others in love.

It is our prayer that the quality of our lives will give witness to God’s unconditional love and discover the joy of knowing Jesus Christ.
