The Cadet program is the only Federally sponsored national youth training program. Under Section 46 of the National Defense Act, the Canadian Forces are responsible for the control and supervision of the Cadet Organization. Our goal is to promote citizenship, leadership and physical fitness in Canadian youth, as well as stimulate interest in the three elements of the Canadian Forces. Support comes from many levels of government, various local and national organizations and from the parents of our cadets. The No. 4 Legion is an example of the sort of support provided for this organization. Without the support and encouragement of the Legion and its members, 220 Squadron would be unable to provide many of the activities and programs we organize for our Air Cadets.

The responsibilities of No. 4 Legion to the Canadian Cadet Program include making recommendations to the CF regarding the formation, organization or disbandment of the Corp, recommending suitable people for service as an officer or instructor, recruiting possible cadets, interacting with other cadet corps and providing appropriate training stores accommodation not provided by CF. No. 4 Legion has always been an exceptional partner in this unique relationship. We have asked for and received all sorts of help over the years with everything from an extra locker to store equipment, space for the Band to practice, banquet services, and consistent positive support and financially.

What do we do at Cadets? You may have asked yourself this question from time to time. The Air Cadet program is a week by week training program. We meet on Monday evenings and generally extra activities take place on Sunday at Minto Armories. We have an office in the basement and the use of the Parade Square at those times. Training takes place during the school year and we follow the same holiday schedule as the public school system. In general, we follow an academic training program under the guidance of instructors and study the lore of aviation, acquire new skills and develop qualities of leadership.

220 Red River Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron is currently barracked at Minto Armoury, 969 St Matthews Avenue. The Squadron meets on Monday nights from 6:30 PM until 9:30 PM. If you are between 12 - 18 years of age and are interested in the Cadets. Feel free to contact us on Monday nights at (204) 772-5558.
