Private funding from citizens and businesses is necessary for gaining government grant funding. Your donation multiplies by helping us raise more funds.

Your annual membership shows your support for the trails. Membership fees and donations will be used for trail development and maintenance, and for association administrative costs.  Membership entitles you to a vote on trail issues and the election of the executive at the annual meeting.  Members may get involved with trail maintenance work parties.

Practice trail etiquette:

Help keep the trail litter free, for everyone's enjoyment

Cyclists - slow down when passing walkers

Dog walkers - control your pet and carry plastic bags for "scooping"

Trail History and Plan:

The Transcona Trails association is a non-profit group of citizens building a recreational trail system in Transcona. The group started in 2003 with the goal of creating the Transcona Trail. In 2005 and 2006 we created the first segment of the Transcona Trail to join the Bradley Tall Grass Prairie with the Transcona Community Bioreserve.  This created 5 kilometre connected series of trails.  May 27, 2006 we had the grand opening of the Transcona Trail. In 2007 the Transcona Trail will be extended to east of Day Street nearly to Wabasha Street. In 2007 we will start to build the Cordite Trail along the Cordite Ditch creating a connection with Kildonan Estates.

Many trail groups are active in Winnipeg. The River East Trails group is working on connecting their trails with Transcona so we will become connected to the TransCanada Trail. The Red River Floodway Trails Coalition is working on creating recreational trails which will come close to Transcona.  We intend to be a part of the extended Winnipeg trail network. Trails will increase awareness of the parks and green spaces in Transcona.

We are members of the Manitoba Recreational Trails Association (MRTA) and the Winnipeg Trails Association.

The citizens of Transcona need more places to walk and enjoy nature.  Trails encourage fitness. We will connect Transcona parks and green spaces with a trail system that is easy for you to explore. Most of the trails will be mowed grass and easy to walk on, a few will have a limestone surface. The trails will provide an opportunity to observe the birds and wild animals living around Transcona.

Our first section of trail from the Bradley Prairie to Transcona Community Bioreserve includes a trailhead area, ditch crossing at Plessis Road, trail signage and benches.   We planted 87 native trees and shrubs along the trail. Most of the shrubs will produce berries to attract birds.  We are looking forward to seeing the trees grow and provide shade.  We planted a small garden of native plants at the trailhead on the corner of Ravelston Avenue and Bradley Street.

The East Winnipeg Sports Association (EWSA) is building Buhler Recreation Park in South Transcona for soccer, softball and other sports. Buhler Recreation Park will include 5 km of fitness trail. We are involved in the development of this trail.  An Exercise Zone will be on the trail.  It will have equipment and instructions for stretching and strengthening exercises.  Walkers, runners and cyclists will be welcome on the Fitness Trail.  We expect that the Manitoba Lotteries Fitness Trail will be ready for use in the spring of 2008.

In 2007 we aim to plant trees on the western end of the Cordite Trail to give shelter from the wind.
