Inspired by a love of nature and a lifetime of working with wood, Tom Park began his woodcarving career when he retired in 1997 after 38 years as a teacher and principal. He is a member of the board of Prairie Canada Carvers Association , a group that promotes the art of carving and organizes one of the most successful carving competitions in Central and Western Canada. He is also a member of the Adanac Carving Club and Les Gens de Bois Carving Club in Winnipeg. He frequently offers courses in carving songbirds, waterbirds and raptors and does multi-day workshops on habitat design and construction. Tom's carvings feature decorative songbirds, shorebirds, raptors decorative waterfowl and decoys. He has been participating in carving competitions across Western Canada since 1999. Tom lives in Winnipeg with his wife Dorynne. They have three adult children. When not carving or teaching, Tom spends his time relaxing at the cottage and volunteering as a spotter with Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA). |
