Tai Chi Shi Nan is an
organization founded in Manitoba, Canada, in 2006 to promote Tai Chi
as a life enhancing discipline. Tai Chi Shi Nan is about providing
direction to individuals to foster the growth and development of the
holistic nature of Tai Chi.
Tai Chi
is a term popularly
used for Tai Chi Chuan. Tai Chi Chuan is a Chinese martial art with a
proven attribute to promote health and well being. Tai Chi Chuan is
written as Taijiquan in pinyin Romanization.
Shi Nan is a term
that can be translated as pointing south or providing direction, a
compass.
Mission: To
elicit change in people to make healthier choices and to be more
active through Tai Chi.
Vision: To
have people of all ages and physical conditions enjoying the best that
life has to offer.
About the Founder
Tat Lui
Tat Lui started out
just wanting to learn. Tat began guiding students and promoting Tai
Chi in 1997. Tat founded Tai Chi Shi Nan in 2006 to further serve his
students.
Tat's
teaching style is noted for being responsive and flexible, reflecting
each student's distinct characters. Tat believes good Tai Chi skills
can be developed by anyone. Everything we need is available within
each of us, all it takes is mixing a little passion with some
investment in time and commitment.
Tat
teaches to learn and to meet people interested in the holistic nature of Tai Chi. Tat is grateful to all his teachers and all his
students for their guidance.
Tat Lui
seeks opportunities to promote Tai Chi as a holistic life enhancing
discipline. Tat was interviewed on the radio. Tat and his students
have been featured in newspaper articles and spotlighted on television
programs. Tat has accompanied his teachers and his students in
performing Tai Chi at significant cultural functions such as
Folklorama, Chinese New Year and Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations. Tat
has conducted classes at the Chinese Cultural Centre, Chinese School,
Arthritis Self Help Group, Fibromyalgia Support Group and senior centres. Tat has provided
guidance in corporate environments at Manitoba Conservation
Department, Manitoba
Hydro and Great West Life. Tat has conducted workshops at church
retreats, the Youville Community Health Resource Centre and various
support group meetings.
Dr. Paul
Lam has accredited Tat in 2004 in Thunder Bay, Ontario, to teach Dr.
Lam's Tai Chi for Arthritis 1 and 2, and Tai Chi for Diabetes. Tat
first visited Peng You Taiji Quan Association in Thunder Bay, in 2004.
Tat has returned on numerous occasions to participate in courses and
workshops conducted by Master Peng You Lian, and other distinguished
visiting masters.
