Thistle Curling Club
Format and Rules:
- This year we have 16 teams. The draw format will be as follows:
4 rounds, 5 games per round
4 groups (A,B,C,D) with 4 teams in each group.
Each round, a team will play the other 3 teams in its group plus 2 interlocking games. A vs B and C vs D.
- At the end of each round the groups will be reorganized based on accumulated point totals. The top 4 to A-group, the next 4 to B-group etc.
To displace a team from the group above, you must have more points. i.e. Ties go to the incumbent.
- Round winners are decided on points accumulated in that round only.
Ties will be broken first by the team’s record against each other in that round.
- Any ties for placement which cannot be decided by the above rules will be decided by a team shoot-out.
Tie Breaking Procedures – Team Shootout:
· Each team will throw 4 rocks in total
· The points accumulated from all four shots become the team total
· The higher team total breaks the tie.
· Spares may not be used
· At least 3 different team members must throw a rock
· If a 4th team member is not present, any of the 3 team members may throw the remaining rock
· Teams may throw their rocks in any order they choose
· Teams may sweep their own rocks
Scoring:
Touching any part of the 12ft ring: 1 point
Touching any part of the 8ft ring: 2 points
Touching any pat of the 4ft. ring: 3 points
Touching any part of the button: 4 points
Covering the pin: 5 points
The pin is considered to be covered if the outermost edge of the rock is completely over the pin hole.

- For interlocking games the winner will receive win points for the higher group and the loser will receive the loss points for the lower group.
- Group Playoffs:
At the end of each round, the team placing first in their group will be designated the round winner and will be awarded an entry into the Group Playoffs at the end of the season. Teams may qualify more than once out of the same or different groups.
- Grand Aggregate Trophy:
At the end of the regular season the team with the highest aggregate point total will be declared the Grand Aggregate winner for the Wednesday League.
- Club Championship:
At the end of the season, the teams placing highest in the Grand Aggregate point totals will be awarded entry into the club championship. We will again have 3 spots.
- Slow Play
8-end games should not require 2hours and 15 minutes to complete.
If a bell is used, you should finish the end you are on and play one more.
An end is considered complete when the last rock of the end is put “in motion”. A rock is considered in motion when (in the process of delivery) it has crossed the “T” line at the delivering end. Note that the rock does not have to have been released by the delivering player; it only has to have crossed the near T-line.
- Extra Ends
The default method of breaking ties will be an extra end. However, any other method may be substituted provided both skips are in agreement and it will not take more time than an extra end would require.
- Defaulted Games
Please endeavour to notify the opposing team in a timely manner if you will not be able to play a game.
We have a “zero points for a loss” policy for no-notice defaults. Notice should be given in sufficient time to allow the opposing team to avoid waiting out a no-show at the club.
Leaving a phone message or email does not constitute notice. You should always have confirmation that the other team has received the message.
- Spares must play lead or lead and second.
