The Benefits of Therapy
Individuals, couples, families ask for therapy when there is a
difficulty with which they want help.
The goal of therapy is to
improve people's functioning as individuals or within
relationships.
Solving the problem sometimes requires the
participation of someone who can help you see it differently and
learn to do something different.
The therapist assists and supports individuals or/and families in transition and life changes such as: birth, adolescence, job loss, career changes, separation, divorce, retirement, illness, death of family member.
The therapist helps clients to deal with overcoming trauma related to violent relationships, childhood abuse, experiencing car accidents and symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
In therapy people can learn how to cope or deal with distressing symptoms of depression, anxiety, panic attacks, addictions, eating disorders, suicidal thoughts and ideation.
Family concerns can be addressed with a positive results: parenting, one parent families, blended families, extended family, family violence, couples in crisis, sexual identity, ending a relationship and starting over.
Work related issues can be resolved: burnouts, stress, workplace harassment, conflict resolution, time management and job performance.
Personal growth can be enhanced: self esteem, assertiveness, relaxation techniques.
Families can benefit when coping with medical crisis (AIDS, Alzheimer's disease, dementia, chronic illness and disabilities, emotional disorders, depression, anorexia/bulimia and families facing the loss of their children to death or out-of-home placement.
You do not have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy.
FEE: Payment based on income. Therapy may be covered by The Compensation for Victims of Crime. Check with your service provider to see what assistance you can receive.
Therapy can be provided in the Polish or English language.

Helena Nikodem received her Master of Arts in Psychology from
Catholic Theology Academy in Warsaw, Poland (a five year full-time
program that is equivalent to a Canadian Master of Arts Degree in
Psychology).
In 1998 she received her Master's Degree in Marriage
and Family Therapy, The University of Winnipeg, Faculty of Theology.
Helena Nikodem has over twenty years of experience in counselling
roles including: Individual, Marriage and Family Therapist, Clinical
Consultant and Group Facilitator. She worked as a Clinical
Psychologist in Poland. She is involved in a Private Practice Service
providing Individual Marital and Family Therapy.
