REGIONAL OVERVIEWThe Southwestern Manitoba Regional Library serves a total population of 2,654 with services being provided by three libraries in the system. The libraries are located in the towns of Melita, Pierson and Napinka. The Southwestern Manitoba Regional Library system operates in what is consdered a unique situation in that each library is responsible for its own finances and its own operations. Board and staff members work on a committee system to ensure that local, regional and provincial responsibilities are met. This arrangement allows for a great deal of flexibility to respond to individual community needs and to still work for the betterment of library services as a whole. MISSION STATEMENTThe purpose of the Southwestern Manitoba Regional Library is to obtain, organize and make conveniently available recreational, educational and informational materials to all residents of the community in convenient form, including books, periodicals, newspapers, pamphlets, sound recordings and other print and non-print materials. It is the policy of the library to maintain an up-to-date collection of works in all fields of knowledge, as well as timely material on current issues and items in current demand.
