Education: Developed and conducted movement training programs, workshops, and numerous demonstrations for children, adults and dance professionals. Created dance movement and therapy training programs for physically disabled. Has created choreography, performance and dance history workshops. Active in Artists in the Schools and LTTA programs and is Guest Artist in Residence for Contemporary Dancers Professional Training Program. Ms. Ballard received her Masters Degree in Therapeutic Counselling in 2001.

Management: Responsible for the planning and overseeing of personnel, annual budgets, grant applications and public relations. Experienced Production coordinator, Stage Manager and Tour Manager. Extensive experience working with Art's organisations, city, provincial and federal government agencies. Management of Modern Dance Archives WCD.

Choreography: Critically acclaimed internationally, Ms Ballard is the recipient of Canada's most distinguished Awards in Choreography. She has created of over 60 original and diverse works for the stage, film, and television. Her works are a seen in Modern and Ballet companies repertories as well as in programs for artist in the schools.

Short Biography

Stephanie Ballard is an acclaimed choreographer, personal coach and dance educator. She is a recipient of Canada's most prestigious awards for choreography including the Clifford E. Lee Award, the Jean A.Chalmers Award and the Jacqueline Lemieux Prize. Ms Ballard has created over 60 original works of diversity for stage, film and television. Formerly an apprentice, solo dancer, resident choreographer and associate artistic director for "Winnipeg's Contemporary Dancers" (1972-83), Ms Ballard has continued her close affiliation with the company and the school in her capacity as a guest choreographer. Her work as artistic advisor, company manager and choreographer for the "Margie Gillis Dance Foundation" (1983-1996) included extensive touring in Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia. In 1996 she completed a residency "Etude Project" with the Columbia City Ballet which was supported by the N.E.A. and the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs. In 1997 Ms Ballard received the Major Arts Award from the Manitoba Arts Council and a Discovery Grant from The Canada Council for the Arts in support of her long term "Legacy Dance Project". In 1998 she had the pleasure of creating a new work "Just Keep Moving" for Ballet Jorgen and curated an archival exhibit for Winnipeg's Contemporary Dancers "35 Years of New Creations". In 1999 Ms Ballard was commissioned to create a new work, "In Passing" for Winnipeg's Contemporary Dancers to celebrate their 35th Anniversary. In 1999 and 2000 she was delighted to perform in Rachel Browne's "Edgelit" in Winnipeg and Toronto. In 2001 she was a guest artist with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet in the film "Dracula" by Guy Madden and Mark Godden. Presently she is the Guest Artist in Residence / Archivist with the School of Contemporary Dancers and works as an independent educator, personal coach and choreographer. In June of 2002 she was the recipient of a grant from "The Canada Council For The Arts" for choreographic research and development. In 2004 WCD will present her newest work "George" as a part of the company's 40th Anniversary Season. She is presently a member of the Manitoba Arts Councils Multidisciplinary Advisory board and is active with SCDS/SECD an organization devoted to saving the dance heritage of Canada.
