Reflected Memories
Sitting by the stream's
edge,
I look into the silvered water, hoping to see more than my reflection.
And I do; I see you,
Reflected a thousands times and over again.
You as you were the first time I met you,
You as we stood the first time I told you how much you meant to me,
You as I hold you in my memory,
Always the one to lift me up, to pick me up when I was fallen.
I gave you all my trust; I told you all the secrets I had,
And now I must hope that you will honor them.
Every moment shared is reflected in the water's clear surface,
And reflected a thousand times more in my memory.
A flower catches my eye, I think of you.
Someone whispers words you said to me once, long ago,
And I cannot help but smile as I think of you.
Friendship cannot exist without trust,
And so I have placed my trust in you,
Fail me not.
Once you have given yourself to someone else,
You surrender yourself to them: your heart is taken into their hands.
Hope with your heart among hearts, that will not tear it asunder,
Hope that they will not be the cause of the tears that sop your pillow even as you pray
for sleep to take you.
For sleep provides sanctuary from all that threatens us, tries to drag us down and haunt
us,
In sleep we can dream of a better life,
Where our dreams come true.
And if the nightmares come, I will banish them with thoughts of you,
For you, and you alone, have begun the silencer of my inner demons,
And with your voice, you quell my fears.
And yes, the fears are always there.
Some foolish, but yet others having more weight than that.
And I turn to you to silence them, to condemn and make me live again.
With you by my side, I realize that I can face the day.
And yet, perhaps I should not have done so,
buried so much of my hope and my life in yours,
because now if you hurt me,
I will have no choice but to bleed.
Looking to the new day, I hope you will always be there,
For with your smile, your greeting hello,
I am reassured that the world is a place worth living in,
And one that I can succeed in.
Goodnight to you, may I see you in the morning's light,
And may the memories reflected in the water never fade,
For those memories make me smile, and I would add to their collection if you would only
