It was not meant to be
(Jan 29, 2004)
You told me to let you into my heart,
let you show me the world as it exists to you,
let me see it with your eyes.
I took your hand, stepped out into this world,
a bud new, blossomed, and free,
bound to you through my thorns,
tried to keep you away.
Dancing in the night, holding hands and exploring worlds together we climbed,
lost in each other's arms until we parted once again, only to meet again one day.
But now, neither one nor the other speaks,
though our hearts may may call out each other's names -
it is not our place, our time, it did not work,
separated still we try to wipe away each other's pain.
I see you in my mind, but I cannot touch you,
and even if I could I should not,
and therefore I must not.
Each in our own rooms, surrounded with memories of the other, we know we cannot have,
and cry these bittersweet tears as they fall into my lap.
It was not meant to be. |
