Chicago of the North
Walk down this back alley with me,
come take a trip back in time.
Before us stand streetcars and tradesmen -
Chicago of the North is born.
Flip the calendar over,
to May 15th,
of the year made famous - 1919.
It was here, on this spot,
where the working class stood their ground,
and demanded less work for more pay.
Accusations rang out, gunshots replied,
two men lay dead in the streets.
I watch the play from that very same spot -
at least I knew how it would end.
