History & LOCATION

Dojo History

Charleswood Karate started at the Westdale Community Centre in 1993 under Sensei Ron Porath. There were only 3 classes offered per week compared to the 13 classes a week that are offered now at the current location. The Westdale Community Centre had difficulty providing times, and when class times became limited, alternate options had to be found.
In 1998 Sensei Ron decided to find a another location. Wanting to continue to support the existing students, a location was found that was still within the Charleswood community, and that was less than 2 km from the Westdale Community Centre. In 1999 the new dojo was built with contribution from many of its members. Since that time, the dojo is proud to have hosted JKA instructors Sensei Yutaka Yaguchi and Sensei Shigeru Takashina.    Charleswood Karate Dojo

Dojo Location

We are located at 5924 Roblin Boulevard on the south side near Municipal Road. For those familiar with the Charleswood area of Winnipeg, we are located next to the Assiniboine Credit Union, and kitty corner to the Royal Canadian Legion with the military tank [the cannon on tank points right to the dojo!].

If you are not familiar with the Charleswood area, below is a map showing our location. You may scroll around the map, zoom in, or zoom out.
