Sensei Ron Porath:Education:- Electrical Engineer - Masters in Business Godan [5th level black belt]; certified ISKF instructor Sensei Ron is one of the few sensei's in Canada who owns his own dojo and is so dedicated to karate that his home is co-located with the dojo. Sensei Ron has 3 adult children who do karate as well: - Ryan : yondan, 4th level black belt - Scott: sandan, 3rd level black belt - Laura: sandan, 3rd level black belt Sensei Ron's students have placed in Manitoba provincials, Canadian nationals, and internationally. His dojo frequently has the provincial champions for kata and kumite. At present, the youngest black belt at Charleswood Karate Club is 10 years old and the oldest black belt students are over 50 years old. |

Sensei Ryan Porath:Sensei Ryan Porath began training in February 1987 at the age of 8 years old, along with his younger brother, Sensei Scott. Since then, he has attended an abundance of seminars and camps, and has had the benefit of learning from many Shotokan Masters. Sensei Ryan has competed provincially, nationally, and internationally many times over the years. He currently holds the rank of yondan [4th level black belt], and has been invited to test for godan. His current subject of study is kata/kihon application.Ryan started assistant teaching in the early 1990's, and began teaching regularly by the age of 16 to both the adult and children's classes. He began the ISKF Instructor Trainee Program in February 2000, and plans to test for his registered instructors qualifications in 2010. Sensei Ryan currently teaches Monday night classes, as well as substitutes whenever needed. His enthusiasm and passion are displayed at every class he instructs. |

Sensei Phil Harris:Sensei Phil Harris was born in Winnipeg in 1981 and has been training in Shotokan karate since the age of 8. He currently has the rank of Yondan [4th level black belt]. Sensei Phil has participated in provincial, national, and international karate tournaments. He has competed twice as a junior in the World Shoto Cup in Philadelphia and Paris, France.Sensei Phil began teaching under Sensei Ron's guidance in 2000. Aside from his karate training, Sensei Phil enjoys listening to indie music and spending time with his wife Kathy. His focus on hard work in class is appreciated by those who know the essence of karate spirit. |

Sensei Scott Porath:Sensei Scott Porath has been in karate since 1987. He is holds the rank of Sandan [3rd level black belt]. At the age of 16 he competed on the provincial men's kata team and has been on the team every year he has been able to compete. He frequently attends the Master Camp in Philadelphia and has placed in the international tournament a number of times. His no-nonsense approach to class keeps the younger students on their toes. |

Sempai Allan Moore:Sempai Al was born in Winnipeg in 1963. He joined Charleswood Karate, under Sensei Ron’s guidance, with his youngest daughter in 1998. He has since obtained the rank of Nidan [2nd level black belt] and level D judge. He has participated in many tournaments at both the provincial and national level.Sempai Al has been a firefighter/paramedic with the City of Winnipeg since 1983. He has been instructing the Young Tigers Karate program with his wife, Sempai Alli, since its inception in 2004. He also teaches children’s classes and adult classes. He enjoys every opportunity to pass on what he has learned, and to help others develop themselves through Karate-do. Aside from karate, Sempai Al enjoys spending time with his daughters and taking care of his many pets. |

Sempai Allison Moore:Sempai Alli was born in Winnipeg in 1980. She started karate under Sensei Ron’s guidance at Charleswood Karate in 2001. She has since attained the rank of Nidan [2nd level black belt]. She has participated in many karate tournaments at the provincial, national, and international level.Sempai Alli graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Education degree [2001] and Bachelor of Science degree [2006]. She is currently in Medical School at the University of Manitoba and hopes to graduate with her MD in 2012. Sempai Alli's passion for teaching and learning are always evident when she is instructing. She coached gymnastics for a number of years at Springer’s Gymnastics Club here in Winnipeg. She has been instructing the Young Tigers Karate program with her husband, Sempai Al, since its inception in 2004, and also teaches children’s classes. When she has spare time she enjoys spending it with her numerous pets. |
