Planning Districts

The Rural Municipality belongs to the Lakeshore Planning District. The Planning District Office is located in Fork River. Planning Districts are required by The Planning Act and the objectives of these districts are to promote the optimum economic, social, environmental and physical condition of the area. They deal with land use, ensure plans and by-laws are complied with, and issue permits. Districts consist of all or part of two or more municipalities and are established by Order-in-Council.

The R.M. of Ochre River Emergency Plan has now been completed.
In the event of an emergency you will be notified by loud hailer, sirens, door-to-door canvas or by media (television / radio).

If you must Evacuate:
  • leave a note for authorities saying when you left and where you went
  • vacate your home when advised
  • wear protective clothing and comfortable walking shoes
  • shut off anything you may be cooking
  • you may need to shut off main electric switch, water heater, water supply
  • take your Family Emergency Supplies Kit
  • lock your house
  • follow routes specified by officials - do not take shortcuts
  • do not drive through flood waters or off-road unless told to do so
  • if you car stalls in fast rising water leave it behind - always consider safety first
  • register with the reception centre so you can be contacted and reunited with your family
  • notify your Family Contact of your situation.
If you must Shelter-In-Place
  • go indoors and stay there
  • do not use kitchen or bathroom vents
  • set thermostats so air conditioners, furnaces & hot water heaters will not come on
  • do not use fireplaces - close all dampers
  • do not operate clothes dryer
  • shelter in an inside room away from windows and doors if possible
  • reduce or avoid smoking as it contaminates the air
  • do not leave the building until told to do so
  • stay tuned to local television or radio for information
  • do not use the telephone - it may tie up the lines.
