Biography:
Porter arrived
a healthy boy on
March 3rd, 2008
.
Porter’s parents were thrilled to meet their
new beautiful son who had grown so large in his
mom’s belly. Big
sister, Hudson, immediately embraced him and read him
stories. Porter
adored
Hudson
and all her hugs and kisses.
Porter also loved his grandparents, aunts,
uncles, cousins, and always looked forward to their
cuddles. Other
than dirty diapers, Porter seemed to love everything.
He even learned to smile at three weeks old!
You could always get Porter to smile by singing
his favourite songs, smushing your face in his belly,
or saying “Hey little guy.”
And when we made a funny laugh, he joined in
with his own! How
lucky we were to hear Porter giggle.
Porter decided not to sleep very much and would
even wake in the middle of the night just to play!
Most babies snooze in their strollers, but
Porter preferred to remain wide awake and enjoy his
surroundings. When
Porter was only four months old, we learned he was
battling a rare immunodeficiency disease.
His brave sister was a perfect bone marrow
match and on August 18th, 2008 Porter received
her harvested marrow.
Engraftment of the marrow was confirmed, but
the disease had progressed and on August 28th,
2008, Porter became Hudson’s guardian angel.
During his two-month stay at Children’s
Hospital, we were able to spend every second by
Porter’s side, memorizing every exquisite thing
about him. We
were able to let Porter know how grateful we were for
all he has taught us about appreciating life.
Porter must have been very tired but instead of
whining, he chose to be snuggled.
He seemed to know that life is too short for
pity, and decided to spend his time on this earth
bringing joy to others.
How blessed we are to have known and loved
Porter.
