History of the
Sawmill
Leptick Sawmill LTD was started in 1948 by
John Leptick.
He built a small caterpillar fifteen and
in '47 and in '48 began to cut pulpwood.
Then, John built a small sawmill. He worked long and hard to get everything up and
running. His wife Helen even lent a helping hand. Soon, the business took off.
John had many helpful employees throughout
the years and this helped make Leptick Sawmill LTD what it is today.
Later on two of his sons joined John in
his business venture. Jack joined his father after grade 11 and he still works there
today. Kirk worked for the sawmill for five years as an employee, then joined in
partnership with his father and brother Jack in 1980 to form Leptick Sawmill LTD.
The sawmill continues to thrive and do
well in Cranberry Portage due to its workers and many loyal customers.
