About Transcona Transcona is a community of approximately 40,000 residents located on the eastern edge of the City of Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada. In 1908 the Grand Truck Pacific Railway purchased land for their western repair shops and established the Town of Transcona. The name Transcona was derived from the words Transcontinental and Strathcona to commemorate the National Transcontinental Railway and Lord Strathcona, Donald Alexander Smith, to whom Transcona owes it's existence. The town grew steadily and was officially incorporated by Charter as the Town of Transcona on April 6th, 1912. Transcona continued to grow and in 1961 it was granted it's City Charter and was official dubbed "The Park City" in 1966. In 1972 Transcona was amalgamated with the City of Winnipeg. Today Transcona is a strong and vibrant community with a long and proud history with it's residents committed to ensuring the continued growth and prosperity of their community.
