History of Scouting In Transcona The Scouting Movement came to Canada in 1908 and within 5 years the very first Scout Troop in Transcona was organized. Through the two world wars and depression in the 1930's participation in Scouting in Transcona declined. But in 1949 at the request of the Independent Order of Foresters a Group Committee was organized and the 1st Transcona Scout Group was formed. As the Scouting Movement continued to grow more groups were formed including the 2nd and 3rd Transcona Scout Groups in 1958 followed by 5th and 7th Transcona in 1963 and 10th Transcona in 1978. In 1971 the Transcona Scout Groups were the first groups to adopt the Beaver Colony program aimed at inlcuding children aged 5 to 7 in the Scouting Movement and is the home of Bev Richmond, the first Beaver Commissioner. Although a decline in public interest in the Scouting Movement has resulted in the closure of some Transcona Scout Groups, the 1st and 3rd Transcona Scout Groups are continuing to operate with the help of dedicated volunteers and parents and providing the youth of Transcona with a program that develops their bodies, minds and spirits. 1st Transcona Scout Group - Serving Transcona's Youth Since 1949 The 1st Transcona Scout Group offers programs for boys and girls aged 5 to 17 years and has been providing the youth of Transcona with a challenging and fun program filled with camps, hikes, tours, games and community events for over 55 years. All scouting sections of the 1st Transcona Scout Group meet at the only independent Scout Hall left in Manitoba which is located at the corner of Winona Street and Melrose Ave W.
