Miss Kitty is dressed as a noblewoman of the late Edo era. I wanted this painting to be cute as well as elegant, and I added the sparrows to inject a bit of playfullness - they look like they're chasing after the temari! A temari is a kind of ball made of scraps of fabric wrapped in thread and covered with silk embroidery.
