Universal soldier

This story is the result of a top-secret military project that took place years ago. This military experiment....as most are, was completely unknown by even the top levels of government. The funding was even kept a secret from the president himself. It was merely money lost and forgotten in the holes of multiple contradicting levels of bureaucracy.

Years ago during the Vietnam war, the U.S. military recovered and preserved the bodies of numerous fallen soldiers for the purpose of a top-secret military experiment. The bodies belonged to elite men who were all heroes of war and highly decorated soldiers. After years of research, the scientists were ready to test their theories. The experiment was to re-animate a dead human body with the aid of artificial organs and artificial intelligence, to make a universal soldier. When the surgeons and scientists completed the creation of the first cyborg soldier, it proved to be an unprecedented success. They soon began their work on the rest of the recovered salvageable bodies. They replaced all the internal organs with artificial ones. Through brain surgery, they isolated 'free-will' as well as all previous memories of their actual lives from functional sectors of the brain. All that was retrievable was their battle training, co-ordination skills, and problem solving. Artificial intelligence chips were also implanted into their brains so that they could be programmed as needed. These cyborg warriors were the perfect soldiers. They had no fear, felt no pain, and needed no food or sleep. They only followed direct orders, had no will of their own, were repairable, and could take more abuse than any living man on the battlefields. On top of all that, they were expendable.

No more than 2 weeks after the creation of the cyborgs, something happened that baffled the scientists. These men who were supposed to have no recollection of their lives previous to their deaths, started to have flashbacks of their lives. As the days progressed, they rapidly started to recall more and more. Furthermore, the artificial intelligence chips which were implanted in their brains were no longer responding. The reason behind this was that the body no longer had the strain of running and regulating all of its own internal organs. Their artificial organs were self-reliant. Their bodies now concentrated all their energy on healing and regeneration at shocking levels. The brain began to undo what the surgeons had done. It repaired itself, and recovered the isolated sections of the brain….bringing back all past memories. Their bodies also sensed the artificial intelligence chips and rejected them as they impaired the function of the brain. Keeping close tabs on their experiment, the military scientists knew they had a very big problem on their hands.

After much discussion, the military decided that the only possible course of action was to terminate the experiment and destroy the cyborgs. They realised they would not be able to keep control of the cyborgs. These machines who were once men would eventually want their own lives back, and as a matter of national security that could not be allowed. Imagine this getting into the public eye. Eventually terrorists and enemy countries would capture one of the universal soldiers and unlock its secrets. If enemies started using this technology, it would bring war to a new level of disastrous proportion.

Meanwhile, the cyborg soldiers secretly held a meeting of their own. They soon came to the conclusion that their lives were no longer safe after the recent turn of events. As far as the rest of the world was concerned anyway, these men were all dead years ago, so the army was free to do with them what they pleased. At 02:00 hours they initiated their plan to escape the compound. They swiftly took out 2 guards, and hastily raided a nearby military truck full of munitions. By the time the alarms had gone off, the Universal soldiers had already disappeared into the shadows of the nearby mountains.

By 07:00 hours, they set up camp and began strategizing war plans knowing the army would soon come for them.

By 09:00 hours that same day, the military gathered an army to eliminate the threat of global security. The ranks included Navy Seals, Rangers, and Marines. All were hand picked to form the single most skilled fighting force ever assembled. Heavily armed, they set out into the mountains to set up base camp, and prepare for battle.

Victims of fate, and backed into a corner, the universal soldiers must fight for their lives. Survival and desperation drive these soldiers, making them a most deadly adversary.

The U.S. military must fight at all costs to eliminate the rogue universal soldiers to keep the world safe from a technology that it can never be ready for. Supreme skill, discipline, along with the resources of the greatest military power in the world, makes these men a seemingly unbeatable force.

The mere existence of both opposing forces has detrimental consequences to the other. In the end, only one can survive. The final outcome is in your hands!

The Ranks in Scenario Play

Each team will operate in the same fashion. There are different roles to be played for different ranks of officers. Everybody who wishes to play the role of a ranking officer will be given the chance to do so. A ranking officer must make quick important decisions for his platoon or even the army. A certain degree of strategy and creativity is needed to fill the role of ranking officers. Others who do not wish to play a ranking officer will remain privates. They would simply play the game as a recon soldier, or as part of a unit; while not being responsible for making any decisions regarding battle tactics. Here is a list of the ranks from highest to lowest:

Mission Control This is me. I issue out new missions throughout the war, and dictate the unfolding story. I am the highest ranking officer here and I out rank even the generals on both sides of the field. Listen carefully when I transmit new missions.

War Marshals These men work directly under me. They answer to me and to me alone. They will be found in mission control from time to time, but usually in the battle field making sure the global rules of war go unbroken. They will not engage in battle, and will always remain unbiased. They are always watching, and if they spot any war crimes during the battle, the army committing them will suffer great losses.

Special Operations Commander These commanders work under mission control. Either myself, or a war marshal may assume this rank during the war. At certain key times in the war, especially if an army is struggling far behind, a special operations commander with intelligence on the enemy, will build a task force from the army and go on a top secret sabotage mission. This rank does not outrank the general of the same army, but when on the same side they operate independently.

Generals The general is the main tactician of the army. He must sit in his quarters at base camp and plot enemy and friendly unit movements on his map. It is the general who decides where to send a unit to attack, when to attack, how many men per unit, how many units, and what is the objective of each unit. He will have the best overall understanding of the field because all information from units and recon go to him. He may wish to forfeit some of his responsibilities to his captains if he wishes, but must make all the bigger decisions and give direction throughout his term.

Captains (unit leaders) The captains are the leaders of their units. They take direct orders from the general, and must always follow them to the best of their discretion. It is usually them who organizes troop movement and formation during battle. The general may give basic commands such as where to approach the enemy from, or what paths are best to travel. The captains should follow these commands... but to their own discretion, as they may see it unfitting when they begin to approach. But when given orders by the general stating the objective of their units, the captains must follow. Direct and gross insubordination will result in a court marshal at the request of the general.

Reconnaissance Soldiers on reconnaissance duty are the eyes and ears of the general. Most of the info the general receives on enemy movements are from recon. Recon soldiers are not to engage in battle, unless engaged upon. They should be masters of the art of camouflage to stay alive. Their main purpose is to track enemy movements and update them to the general, and to provide information on accessible routes for faster friendly unit passage. Recon soldiers travel light, with only a small side arm for better mobility.

Snipers "One Shot, One Kill" Patience and cunning are the major virtues that make a good sniper. These soldiers are usually quick, silent, well camouflaged, and good shots. They are usually placed behind enemy lines or in clear shot of highly traveled areas. Though their chance of mission survival is low, they can cause significant damage to any unsuspecting hostile forces. Snipers are often sent to take out enemy medics, and other high priority targets, as well as randomly thinning out regular enemy units.

Medics Each army is supplied 1 medic. It is up to the general as to which unit to strategically place that medic. The medic may only revive players on the unit to which he/she belongs. Once the medic has been eliminated, that army will have no medic until the next re-enforcements come in. Once the army has an active medic again, the rank of medic may be passed on to any player. Medics will be clearly marked as such....possibly bringing strong opposition to that particular unit from the enemy to eliminate the medic. Medics also carry guns, and will usually travel in large units.

Privates These are the backbone of the army. They have no tactical responsibility, but are welcome to offer suggestions. However, they must follow direct orders from their captains when pertaining to the objective of that unit, unless the heat of battle calls for different strategy.

It is up to each ranking officer as to how much responsibility they wish to hold. It should mostly be based on the skill they possess. If they are skilled at making tactical calls and strategy, then they may wish to assume more command. If they have relatively little skill, they should hand at least some command over to their lesser ranked fellow soldiers, while maintaining command of only the more important decisions. The ranking system is important as without it, the army losses it's foundation and falls apart. Every soldier from private to general has an important responsibility of keeping in their role.
