Allow me to introduce you to "The Cluck and Quack
Poultry Club", which started in April of 2001.
Purpose
The purpose of our club is to connect people with the same interests of
raising poultry, waterfowl, pigeons and other exotic and domestic animals
and birds in order to exchange information, provide contacts and promote
accepted standards. We provide opportunities for members to increase their
knowledge in the intricacies of raising the above critters, to purchase
and sell them and to provide opportunities for members to display them for
judging purposes.
Meetings
Our meetings take place in the months of February, April, June, October
and December each year. Our meetings are held at a different club member’s
home on a volunteer basis. The reason for this is to ensure that not only
does one member have the cost of hosting meetings; but, more importantly
we get to have a tour of the host’s bird facilities – which gives people
many ideas on housing and to see different breeds first-hand. Our meetings
are fun! If you are unable to attend meetings, the minutes are promptly
mailed out to you so you stay informed on what is going on in the club.
Shows and sales
We have judged shows, displays at various cultural and agricultural
events, and co-host poultry health and feeding seminars. On the third
weekend in September each year, we hold our “Chicken and Exotic Critter
Yard Sale”. Club members are invited to bring critters - feathered or
furred - to sell at their prices, at a minimal cost of $5.00 per seller.
We have an enormous turnout and members are extremely happy with their
sales. New for 2010 will be a "Chicken and Exotic Critter Spring
Auction".
Who are members?
The members of our club have experience ranging from just starting out
with birds, all the way to 25+ years of enjoying the hobby. We also have a
library of books pertaining to poultry and their care.
Members Critters
Our club members own everything from Bantams, Standard Chickens, Ducks,
Turkeys, Guinea Fowl, Peacocks, Pheasants, Pot-bellied Pigs, Rabbits,
Goats, Sheep, Llamas, Alpacas, Pigeons, Quail and probably more that we
can’t remember.
Membership Directory
Every member of the club receives a copy of a Membership Directory which
lists everything each member owns. This helps if you are looking for a
particular breed and want to buy from a club member. The Directory is also
a good place to drop a line about your at-home business, if you have one.
Fees
Our annual membership is $15.00 per family (from January to December or
portion) and can be mailed to Tricia Anderson, Box 7, Grp 406, RR 4,
Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0.
