We have the right to express these feelings and together OUR VOICES ARE LOUD.

This petition came about because of the incident that happened to our husbands in December 2006 on Jubilee Ave. We sat around a kitchen table one night discussing our anger and frustration and decided that we would channel these feeling into a cause to help rid our streets of the conditions that produce violence in our communities. We as a society must and it is our duty for the next generation to come, to put perspective back into what is the law, and if you step over that line you pay the price for what you did.

The common theme was the feeling of frustration with the lack of respect by some members of society towards not only community but the lack of respect towards human life. We expressed our feelings of hopelessness that even though criminals are caught and sentenced they don’t serve their sentenced time. They are back on the streets committing more crimes against the innocent and vulnerable and continue to be released. We discussed our fear of not being able to feel safe walking on our streets without the threat of being in the line of gunfire or being mowed down by a stolen vehicle. We discussed our feelings of anger that this is not just a Winnipeg issue but an issue across this country and that most citizens are saying enough is enough, something must be done.

These same conversations are being held around thousands of kitchen tables, by most of our citizens and their feelings expressed are similar to ours. We cannot continue to stand by and watch as our properties are destroyed, our citizens attacked, our peace officers threatened and our sense of well-being jeopardized.

We decided that something could be done, that we are law abiding people who demand that there be changes. We decided that if we raise our voices together and set up a forum to express these feelings that there must be others that feel the same way. If you do sign the attached petition then let us together send a clear message to the law makers, politicians and judges that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
