SEATTLEPearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready has organized a hometown team to participate in Portland's 2nd annual "You Gotta Have Guts" 5k walk/run. McCready's Team - named "Social Digestion" in honor of one of his favorite punk bands Social Distortion - will be ready to race on Sunday, August 7th beginning at 9AM at Willamette Greenway Trail. (7:30AM registration). All proceeds from the 5k walk/run will benefit the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.
Prospective competitors can still register for "You Gotta Have Guts" online at http://www.ccfa.org/chapters/northwest/ and join an existing team, register as an individual runner/walker or create a new team for the race. Those who cannot participate in the event but are interested in making a donation to CCFA can do so at www.ccfa.org.
In December of 2002, McCready made public his 20-year battle with Crohn's Disease and ulcerative colitis at the annual CCFA luncheon. Since then, he has been committed to raising awareness and funding for the Northwest Chapter of the CCFA - an organization that has helped him and hundreds of others suffering with the disease.
"I have met so many incredible people through my affiliation with CCFA, and their strength and braveness in dealing with these diseases inspires me to do all I can to help," says Mike McCready. "There are millions of people who have these diseases and suffer in silence. I hope that by making IBD a topic of conversation, more people will speak out and get the support and help that they deserve."
In addition to the August 7th Portland event, McCready is also rallying his "Rolling Crohn's" team to participate in Seattle's "You Gotta Have Guts" 5k, which scheduled for August 27th. Funds raised from both "You Gotta Have Guts" events benefit the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA). CCFA is the only research-oriented, voluntary health organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with ulcerative colitis & Crohn's disease. - Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, collectively known as IBD, are painful and debilitating diseases of the intestinal tract that have no cure. CCFA coordinates national biomedical research and educational programs, and offers support services for patients and their families. Nationally, CCFA has raised over $100 million for IBD research, which searches for a cause and cure. For more information on the organization, please call the Northwest Chapter of CCFA at (425) 451-8455, email jsimmons@ccfa.org or visit www.ccfa.org.
August 1, 2005 -- A Love Letter to the fans:
It's all love. And we just wanted you to know We love you because you love Pearl Jam. We love you because you participate in our Ten Club fun. We love you because of your enthusiasm and support for both Pearl Jam and the Ten Club. We love you because of your passion and dedication to music. It's all love.
Like any other loving relationship, you must acknowledge that we are not perfect. We recognize we have some faults. Sometimes we send out newsletters too late, or the holiday single doesn't come out during the holidays. Or we can only offer a limited amount of tickets or merchandise, which leaves some of you without and extremely frustrated. Or sometimes our forums will go down, leaving you without your link to other fan club members. Or sometimes our web-store will not function properly for you and you are not able to purchase the items you are interested in we want you to know we feel your pain. Every healthy relationship is a little push and pull, ebb and flow, up and down, so it's nothing personal.
Pearl Jam and the Ten Club have been through many changes in the past year. The band has left their record label of 14 years and ventured into unstable but exciting territory of doing many things on their own. The Ten Club is a small operation and has taken on a lot of these endeavors, and we are learning many things along the way - your input is extremely helpful. During this transitional time, just know we are trying to make things better for you, to offer you more opportunities and include you more into the world of Pearl Jam.
That being said, we have high hopes that you will like us a whole lot more when all is said and done. We are planning to do something for our members early next year, to follow the release of the new record something big, bold, beautiful, and free! So hang tight and enjoy the ride with us, continue to provide us with your input, and continue to spread the PJ love.
Did we mention that we love you? It's all love.
Always,
~Ten Club Staff
