This web page showcases a mixture of my work, ranging from sculptures to Halloween creations. The common thread between them all is the satisfaction of working with my hands and challenging myself to transform everyday items into something completely different and unique.
The Mummy
This was made several years ago and still remains one of my favourites. It is constructed from a cardboard shell, covered with paper mache, foam teeth, dryer sheets and cloth. The dryer sheets, when layered with glue, give the appearance of aged, leathery skin.
The costume also included full arms and gloves, bound with cloth and aged with acrylic paint.
Dragonfly 1
This piece was created using various recycled materials.
The dragonflies wings are textured to simulate hammered copper and the leaves are painted to simulate copper with a patina.
SANTAMATIC
So far, this has been the only Christmas inspired sculpture that I have done.
I made Santa a robot as a statement on how commercial Christmas has become and how some people switch on the Christmas spirit and cheer like they would a switch. And then, switch it off January 2nd.
His arms can move left, right, up and down at the elbow and his fingers all move. A second one was planned that would be fully articulated, including the head and legs, but it never materialized.
SMILEY
This was designed around a pair of sun glasses and made it easy and comfortable to wear.
The Living Book of Magic
This was my version of the book in the Army of Darkness movie called the "Necronomicon" or "Book of the Dead".
It has an eye that rotates, simulated bound flesh cover and aged metal corners and lock. The pages were created using a fine corrugated cardboard and the flesh is made from glue saturated dryer sheets.
LIFE FORCE
This sculptor was not planned but evolved from another project I was working on and tested my abilities to simulate finishes, motion and texture. Depending on how it is arranged, it has been compared to a seed sprouting, a mechanical organism, tadpole etc. hence the name life force.
FISH
This was the first sculpture that I made with recycled materials and used simulated bronze and copper finishes.
