When the Union Bank was built in 1898, surely no one had an idea of what the future would bring.

The small-town environment has faced many challenges in the last 100 years. The railway boom came and went, replaced by highways and airways that ran on different paths. Industry types have changed. Sustainability is elusive.

But the people are unchangeable. They continue to dream of the future and to pioneer a lifestyle for the Prairies.

Although the Royal Bank left the building in 1977, others saw its potential. In 1994, after the MidWest Arts Council purchased the building, the Town of Hamiota took ownership so that the non-profit Heritage Arts Centre could be established.
