John Fogerty Non-Album Singles

Written by Adam Bryant.

Back in the Hills/You Don't Owe Me

John doesn't miss a beat with either of these. They should've been on some type of album. "Back in the Hills" combines a great tune with excellent lyrics to provide a totally enjoyable song. The lyrics make you just want to head to the country and leave your troubles in the city behind. "You Don't Owe Me" is another great song with an intro that sounds a lot like "Bad Moon Rising". The tune is great and there's a great guitar solo in the middle.

Coming Down the Road/Ricochet

Two more songs that deserve to be on an album somewhere! "Coming Down the Road" just has a great tune with fun lyrics. John plays some good "screamin' guitar" and good "pumpin' piano" on this song as well. "Ricochet" is just a flat-out awesome instrumental. Great guitar, great saxophone, and John's screaming in the background is also perfectly appropriate.

You Got the Magic/Evil Thing

Both are great songs, but "Hoodoo Man" would have been the ideal single off Hoodoo. How the album was never released is beyond me. "You Got the Magic" has a completely awesome intro, kind of eerie, and then when John comes in with the loud drums, you know he's ready to rock. Excellent lyrics. "Evil Thing" is another great song, good tune, fun lyrics.

I Confess

First of all, Eye of the Zombie is a great album, one of the most underrated of all time, along with John Fogerty. And "I Confess" is an excellent nonLP song, John uses the perfect amount of screaming in this song.

My Toot Toot

John does zydeco! It's a must have, as are all of these! It's just a nice, catchy little tune.
