:: RULES ::

OPEN TO:

  • Illumanus - declined (In recognition and thanks for guiding me through this process and promptly answering any question  no matter how inane.)
  • Paul_Lazax - pending (In recognition and thanks for auxiliary support and in semi-reciprocity for kindly inviting me to play in his [much snazzier] Centrifugal Force TI3 PBEM.  [If I could offer as snazzy a game, it would be full-reciprocity.  Alas.])
  • 4-6 other players (Turin, Beri, Incarnadyne, healdhj, Gulbech - Welcome aboard!)  who have never yet played a Twilight Imperium PBEM game.  (In empathy with being a "newbie" no-one would touch with a 10' hyperlink..)  However:

    • Must be a member of the FFG message boards.
    • Does not have to be Newbie status.  Just had to have the rotten luck to have never yet been successfully accepted in these reindeer games.
    • Must know how to play.  Must have your own game as you will need to access the cards, the text for which will not be provided, in accordance with FFG TI3 PBEM policy.
    • Newbies are traditionally cautiously considered because we're all strangers in this electronic format.  No one wants to play with a potential flake and/or complete boor.  If you haven't already done so, check out the some of the ongoing PBEMs here: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=33 . (This is not to imlpy that everyone in those games are complete flakes and/or boors.  The point of the link was for the next sentence only:)  Realize that these games take months to play.  No one wants to play with a complete boor for months.  Relax, I'm not assuming you're a jerk.  If you end up playing here, I want to assure as much as I can that you don't have to play with one, see?  So, I'm not asking for a résumé.  I will naïvely accept a declaration that covers the following:

      • You are a good sport.  You can win and lose and be in the lead gracefully.  Because of game length, you may have to lose gracefully for months.  You can compliment the opponent who manages to, metaphorically speaking, sodomize you in game.  (After a suitable minimum of cursing your fate and your opponent's lineage, of course.)
      • When you say you want to play it means you want to play until the end of the game.  You are willing to extend to the leading player the courtesy of allowing him to see how his/her plan will play out.  Besides, you are optimistic and live by the creed, "It's not over until it's over!"  Should the unforeseeable occur and you are unable to keep playing, you will advise your moderator and your fellow players rather than simply vanish.  This allows them to wish you farewell and good luck and to make arrangements to resume the game without undue delay.
      • You can post regularly and usually promptly.  (We all recognize that your life may not consist of tanning your eyeballs by monitor radiation.)

GENERAL GUIDELINES

1. Basic rules of Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition and Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition FAQ (version 1.2) are used, unless stated otherwise (see Optional Rules and House Rules below).

2. The Game Master (GM) maintains the official count of all game variables, including, but not limited to, the game board, units, Strategy Cards (including Bonus Counters), Command Counters, Planet Cards, Trade Cards, Trade Goods, Technology Advances, Action Cards, Political Cards, victory points, Public Objectives and Secret Objectives. The GM also keeps track of all deadlines.

3. All players are encouraged to regularly check all publicly accessible information pertaining to the game. In case of discrepancies players should contact the GM and tactfully ask to correct the mistake. Any problems arising from a player's failure to notice such discrepancies will not be considered a valid reason to back up a game in case of irreversible negative consequences for the player(s) involved.

4. The GM has final say on all issues.

OPTIONAL RULES

None will be used.  ISC will be out-of-box, hence the name.  This is my first game-moderating and web-paging experience so I'm keeping the new bookeeping to a minimum.  A 2-pt ISC will also theoretically allow the game to progress faster.

Furthermore, Naalu will *not* figure in the random dealing of homeworlds.  I just don't want to worry about turn sequence or variant twists for this race at this time.

HOUSE RULES

The following house rules will be voted on before setup.  I find these to be simple "apply once" adjustments (source creditted when memory serves):

1.  Races ("a", "b" and "c" to be voted on separately)
     a) Mentak piracy after Trade secondary rather than in Status Phase. (The boards clamor with the uselessness of the ability as is.)
     b) Sardakk N'orr begins with a second transport. (The boards overflow with criticism of this race's slow opening.)
     c) Beri's Dibs during Race Draw variant. (See our "Vanilla ISCream, anyone?" thread for explanation.)

2. Mike_Evans' Memory-less Star Docks. (You may build from a Star Dock the same Round in which said Star Dock was built, so long as you can still legally perform the build - ie. Warfare primary, ISC secondary, etc.)  (Normal:  You may not build from a Star Dock the same Round it was built, period.)

3. Galaxy Construction (vote for only one of "a", "b" or "c")
     a)  Standard.
     b)  Peet's Reverse-order system placement. (As standard but reversing the order of tile placement.  The arguement being the last player has no choice where to place 3/5 tiles.  In a standard, 2-pt ISC game, this may overly reward the 1st [and maybe 2nd] player as she gets ISC twice *and* choice placement of systems and conversely shafts the last player.)
     c)  Paul_Lazax' Custom-build your area of the galaxy.  (Will explain in greater depth later.  Essentially, everyone gets a similar system mix (good, bad, empty and hazard systems) and chooses how those systems will figure around his homeworld and next to MR.)

4. Imperial Rex ("a" and "b" to be voted on separately)
    a)  Order in the Public Objective deck: Standard (random 7th-10th place) vs guaranteed 10th place.
    b)  Mike_Evans' Delayed Imperial Rex.  (Game ends at the end  of the round in which it is revealed.  [After Status Phase.]  Presumably in order to honor the effort that went into the round up to that point.  ISC-holder gets the 2 VP.)  (Normal:  Game ends the instant it is drawn.  ISC-holder is denied the 2 VP.)

RULES CLARIFICATIONS

None at this time.
