Paints

All the paints used in my work are water-based acrylics.  The two main brands are Citadel Color (Games Workshop's own brand name) and Vallejo, which makes two ranges; Model Color and Game Color.  The Model Color range is huge, with over 200 colours, many of which are very subdued, natural shades and "earth" tones.  The Game Color line is essentially a clone of Citadel Color, but with paints that use the Vallejo formulation and bottles.  While they are very close, the Game Color paints do not exactly match the Citadel line, and they have their own idiosyncrasies (both good and bad) as well.

Occasionally I also use a few craft paints.  However, these have the disadvantage of a generally weak pigment base, resulting in poor coverage.  Their main advantage is the huge range of colours available, and the prices, which are a fraction of Citadel/Vallejo's prices.

Some colours of paint have been discontinued in the new Citadel Color line (released in summer 2003).  These colours are no longer available:

Leprous Brown

Storm Blue

Nauseating Blue

Imperial Purple

Lightning Blue

Vile Green

Jade Green

Bilious Green

Pallid Flesh

Ghostly Grey

Beaten Copper

Orange Ink

Green Ink

Sky Blue Ink

Smelly Primer

However, most are still available in the Game Color line (with the notable exception of the inks).

A few new colours have been added.  These are:

Kommando Khaki

Desert Yellow

Catachan Green

Terracotta

Tanned Flesh
