Empire Mortar and Crew

The Empire war machines are a good example of one of my newer painting techniques, which I call "textured highlighting".  The idea is to use brushstrokes to increase the amount of detail in the models; in this case, by adding extra wrinkles to their clothing and a wood grain effect to the war machine's frame.  While these figures still share the colours of the rest of the army, a black primer was used to keep the crew looking a bit "dirtier" overall, and the use of blue was minimized.
