BROWN SABLE -
note the dramatic colour
changes from birth to
maturity. |
This change is typical of many
Sable Havanese. Some change
even more than this, others
less. |
Meet Sarah and read about her
adventures at the Cubanitas in
Great Britain. |
 |
 |
 |
| At birth, Sarah was the colour
of Coca Cola, almost as dark
as her black littermate. Sarah
has one little white paw to tell
them apart. |
4 weeks old - the brown
undercoat is starting to lighten
slightly giving Sarah a
somewhat chocolate
appearance. |
12 weeks old- when the wind
ruffles her fur, you can easily
the much lighter undercoat
coming while the outer hairs
remain broadly tipped in a
deep black / brown |
 |
 |
 |
| 5 months old - in just a few
weeks, the black-brown
tipping is much less
prominent. A lot more change
is still to come. |
8 months old - Most of Sarah's
brown undercoat has
lightened to creamy white and
the black tipping has silvered
away except on the head and
saddle |
1 year old - While some Sables
stay at this stage with a dark
overlay on the head and back,
others continue to change and
lighten even further. In Cuba
and Europe, this appealing
stage of colour development is
referred to as "Cappuccino". |
 |
 |
 |
| 16 months - looking back at
her earliest pictures, Sarah
looks like a totally different
dog. |
18 months - perhaps not the
most flattering or ladylike
pose but perfect to illustrate
how much Sarah's coat has
lightened underneath. |
This is a closeup picture so you
can see the intriguing
variations in the colour in
Sarah's topcoat. |
