UCSS(MB) has a lengthy history of community responsibility. Prior to 1964, social services were provided under the auspices of the Ukrainian Canadian Committee "Aid Fund." The Fund was limited to helping Canada in its war effort and after the war to helping Ukrainian political defectors to come to Canada. On October 29, 1964, the "Aid Fund" reorganized itself into an independent charitable operating agency, known as the UCSS. The first National Office was located in Winnipeg where the first by-laws were written for the Association and all its affiliates. Today, over ten such UCSS offices operate across Canada and one UCSS of Canada, Inc. National Office is stationed in Toronto.
