Bookmarklets for Searching PocoMail Sites

See also the Poco Panel for Opera browsers and perhaps Firefox

PocoSearch 3 --- Click the link for a demonstration. Right-click & select "Add to favorites" to install the bookmarklet. Right-click & select "Copy link address" or "Copy Shortcut" to get an accurate copy.

Synopsis:  Searches the PocoMail help forum and the three web sites (pocomail.com, pocosystems.com and jdfsoftware.com). Opens two new browser windows or tabs.

Notes:  Google and the forum both recognize the operators AND and OR. Google defaults to AND, the forum to OR. They have no other operators in common; therefore, perform complex queries with successive searches. Google's + operator isn't available. The forum evidently ignores symbols it doesn't recognize; to the forum, "spell check" is the same as spell check; ~spell AND ~check is the same as spell AND check.

Each search occupies a separate browser window or tab.

To install it, right-click the link "Search Poco Sites" at the top of this page and select "Add to favorites."

Alternatively, you can install it by creating a bookmark or favorite with this name, URL and description:

Name Search Poco Sites
URL javascript:void(sItEs8=['jdfsoftware.com','pocomail.com','pocosystems.com']);void(sTeRm8=prompt('Search for:',''));if(sTeRm8){for(var i=0;i<=2;i++){void(open('http://www.google.ca/search?q='+escape(sTeRm8+'+site:'+sItEs8[i]).split('%20').join('+'),'','scrollbars,location,toolbar,status,menubar,resizable'));}}
Description A bookmarklet for searching Poco-related Web sites. Click this bookmark, then type in a valid Google search term (readheader, junk mail, "junk mail", Carol OR Carole Shields -Atwood). The program will launch various searches for your term, each search in a separate browser window or tab. MarkB, 2003-08-20.

The URL is one long line that begins with javascript: and ends with }. You can copy it by right-clicking the link above and selecting Copy.

To use the bookmarklet, after installation simply click the bookmark or favorite as you would any other. An input box will pop up asking for your search words.

Disclaimers: Tested with Opera 7.11, Internet Explorer 6 and Windows XP. No warranty. Requires a browser with JavaScript enabled. With some browser configurations, the program may not open separate windows. Primitive pop-up blockers may interfere. Some browsers may require that a page (any page) be open when a bookmarklet is run. Goofy variable names ("sTeRm8") are to avoid collisions with variables in whatever Web page may be open. Thanks to bookmarklets.com, Phil Burns and others for publishing example code.

jdfsoftware.com, pocomail.com and pocosystems.com have given express permission for this bookmarklet, but have not reviewed it, tested it or endorsed it.
