HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARK!! With the cold weather we have been having it is a good thing we have other things to do. Half of our evening was spent inside candling eggs. This is a process that allows you to see what is going on inside of the egg without cracking it open. Allot of the kids found this to be pretty neat. It is hard to see by this photo but it gives you an idea. In this stage you can see veins appearing along the edges of the egg and a dark spot that floats inside. This is the embryo attaching itself to the outer edges of the egg. A very neat thing to try.

March 9, 2004 TRACKER'S AT IT AGAIN...

Winter is not over yet even though last week our meeting brought warm wet weather. With the perfect weather for a snow fort, the Trackers worked together to construct an awesome fort with five foot walls and even a window. Half the kids rolled snowballs into boulders for the walls, while the other half smoothed over the walls. Brendan, our youngest Tracker, managed to roll boulders twice his size and with the help of the bigger kids he was able to bring them over to the fort. We hope it stays until next week, but if not, onto the next adventure. Next tuesday, we move our ducks to the next stage of incubation. I would like to officially welcome Zachary to our group. Remember you can join the Anola"10 Acre Woods" Trackers anytime, and it runs all year for only $50. clipper

Things were starting to happen in the incubator. As the Trackers were planting seeds for spring, they were brought one by one to see the duck eggs starting to crack. It is a very slow process to watch so we took turns looking in on them, but spent most of tonite planting our favorite veggies. To my surprise most had picked broccoli to plant. I wonder if they will eat it when the time comes. We all talk about how we want summer to come, and that it will be fun to have camp outs and barbecues.

The Trackers were invited to come to our home on Saturday, we did this because our eggs started to hatch. In order for every one to be a part of this miracle we phoned every Tracker. Throughout the weekend each Tracker stopped by to get a look at our new born ducks. It was definitely a miracle in the works, it was most amazing to see this process take place. This is the first of six.

Spring has Sprung!!! As the snow disappears the Trackers were busy planting there favorite veggies. When the weather stays warm they can plant them outside. We discovered that children will eat more vegetables when they plant them themselves. It was shocking as to how many picked broccoli to plant. While we planted our seeds, the Pekins were busy pepping up a storm. Every Tracker enjoyed holding a Pekin duck while others looked in on the Muscovy about to hatch.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TARA!! Cancelled due to flooding. As you can see to have a load of kids over would have been a challenge in itself. However, Brittny was over and was fortunate to see the Muscovy duck hatch. What a treat.
