Soundtrack - 2 Sticks of Butter

Most films that tote the name Stephen King usually have excellent soundtracks. This film was an exception. I was quite disappointed with the soundtrack. While it was not awful, it just didn't have the musical score that I have come to expect with films based on works of Mr. King. Although the score attempted to set the mood it did not do an adequate job.

Plot - 2 Sticks of Butter

One expects a developed plot from anything based on a story from Stephen King, this movie did not deliver. In fact I thought that the general premise was weak, and I found the multitude of flashbacks nothing but distracting. I also thought that the flashbacks seemed to be trying to compensate for a lack of script and ideas.

Action - 2 Sticks of Butter

For a thriller this movie was not thrilling. There was very little action and no suspense. It was obvious that the script was attempting to be suspenseful, however the many flashbacks in the movie seemed to detract from any excitement that there might have been.

Effects - 2 Sticks of Butter

The movies made due with very few special effects, making me wonder if there was any budget to this flick. Other than for a car explosion and a few seconds of makeup this movie had no special effects. These were done fine, however for the films genre I expected better.

Characters - 1.5 Sticks of Butter

The movie's main focus was on one character Jim Norton, with many, many references to his dead brother. Towards the end his family became an integral part of the plot, however since the film hardly featured them until the end I found it quite challenging to care about them at all. The main character Jim in my mind was a pathetic excuse for a character. There was no depth to him since he was stuck living in the past.

Overall Impressions - 1.5 Sticks of Butter

Perhaps I was expecting too much from this film. I found the entire thing to be one let down after another. This was not even a movie I grabbed off the Previously View movie pile either. I bought it new on DVD...granted the DVD came with the sequel for $7.98 so I don't feel too ripped off, but I do not advise paying any more for this film.

If you love Stephen King and make it a point to see every movie that is made by him or based on his works then I would recommend you watch this movie. If you are not a hard core fan I would say pass this movie up and go rent something entertaining like The Granny.
