Summary
"WHEN THEY COME, WHO WILL THEY
CHOOSE?
OFFICIAL DENIAL Parker
Stevenson stars as Paul Corliss, whose orderly small town existence begins to
crumble when he experiences extraterrestrial "visitations." Paul reluctantly
tells his wife Anne (Erin Grey) about "little grey men" spiriting him aboard
their spacecraft and conducting bizarre surgical experiments. Anne, frightened
and confused by Paul's story, thinks her husband is losing his sanity.
But the U.S. government
doesn't. In fact, having secretly monitored Paul's alien encounters for some
time, they are now convinced he's the perfect man to help them with their latest
project. Kidnapped by his own government Paul finds himself in the role of
interpreter, and eventually ally, to the sole survivor of a crashed spacecraft-a
withdrawn and mild-mannered being of incredible intellect. Dirk Benedict and
Chad Everett co-star in this intriguing story of an ordinary man whose close
encounter with a stranded alien restores his hope for the future." - Back Cover
Soundtrack - 2 Sticks of Butter
Official Denial's soundtrack
was most definitely not the most creative I've ever heard in fact although there
are times when it seems to add excitement it does not deliver. The fact the the
"orchestra" playing the music sounds like they are a bunch of high school
students.
Plot - 2.5 Sticks of Butter
Alien's, government agents, a
conspiracy, this movie has it all, except a compelling script. This movie starts
at an awkward place in the main character's life. There is little background as
to how the military found out about him, or how they started to watch his
actions. There are also many unimportant characters introduced whose only
purpose seems to be to lengthen the film. However the underlying plot of the
movie is actually a fairly good idea.
Action - 1 Sticks of Butter
Considering the fact that this
movie had both government agents and aliens the action was lacking. In fact
there was only the "villain" military guy was involved in anything even remotely
resembling action.
Effects - 2 Sticks
of Butter
This was a nice wholesome
flick for the whole family. The aliens were neither cute nor frightening. They
just sort of were, I can respect that. However the ship reminded me of Max's
from Flight of the Navigator only not a cool (There was no cute little glowey
ball thingy that spoke to people inside this ship!) the only main difference is
that it seemed to fly in reverse. Stupid aliens. Don't they know 97.32% of
spacecraft accidents occur while flying backwards!!
The worst effect in this movie
however - the thing that keeps Official Denial from receiving a passing grade is
the fact that when Paul shaves his head it is very obvious that he really hasn't
and the make-up people have just made him "look" bald.
Characters - 2.5 Sticks of Butter
Well these characters were
well characters. You could tell no one spent hours trying to fit their roles.
Except for DOS (the alien) he did a great job. Sweet little guy. I liked him.
Actually I also liked the "villain" of the movie too, he was perhaps a little
trigger happy but he played his part fairly well.
Overall
Impressions - 2.5 Sticks of Butter
I'll admit this movie was not
the greatest thing that I've watched this month, however, the story had some
quirky scenes as well as a funky looking alien so it was not a total bust. The
twist towards the end I thought was an innovative idea and not one that I
expected, however (again) this idea was somewhat dampened due to the very cheesy
ending of the film.
I would like it to be known
that one of the reasons this movie rates a 2.5 rather than a lower mark is
because the movie was edited by Patrick Stewart (I do not know if it was edited
by THE Patrick Stewart, but the name is enough don't you think?).
