"Terror has never
run so deep" - Front Cover
Summary
"The Ultimate Sea Battle
Begins
Armageddon on the high
sees! An elite nuclear submarine, on a deadly mission to
deliver an international terrorist to American
authorities, travels through a mysterious ocean portal
known as "The Devil's Eye." Twenty-seven ships
have disappeared in this area, fueling the legend of a
killer mutant octopus. The terrorist escapes to a
passing cruise ship, but no one is safe as the octopus
unleashes its fury. Adrenaline-pounding fear surfaces in
the grips of a monster few have ever seen. Even fewer
will live to tell." - Back Cover
Soundtrack - 2.5 Sticks of Butter
The soundtrack for this movie was nothing to
write home about. There were no elements that I saw that made this soundtrack
memorable, so I give it a 50%. It passes just barely.
Plot - 2.5 Sticks of Butter
Oh the possibilities! This movie really started
off with potential. It was rather clever in the beginning. Then it all went down
hill. As a spy movie it might have been rather entertaining. The villain seemed
rather interesting...for some reason he reminded me of a young Anthony
Hopkins...but I don't know if anyone else would think that. All of this was
blown out of the water as soon as they started to film in the water. As a giant
monster attacking people movie it was just sad. Although they did describe the origins
of the Octopus. Kudos on that.
Action - 2.5 Sticks of Butter
From a movie that is supposed to have a giant sea
creature attack and a Russian spy element this movie really falls flat. Perhaps
had they just kept it to one of the themes. As it was they had random spy scenes
with some small amounts of violence and a giant Octopus with some small amount
of action. I passed it because I was feeling generous and thought perhaps they
were biting off more than they could chew when they came up with this idea.
Effects - 1.5 Sticks of Butter
I was going to give the movie a 2 stick rating
for effort, but then I realized that this wasn't a bunch of geeks making a movie
and showing it for free. I purchased this pig swill for $4.99! Just think of the
fools who didn't buy it previously viewed, people who paid full price for it!
It's just unforgivable. The Octopus that the movie is named after rarely showed
itself and when it did it was usually just a tentacle, when it did actually
grace us with its presence we were able to see a creature that was obviously
digitally rendered. There is one point when it grabs someone, the guy is so
obviously superimposed it's scary!
Characters - 3.5 Sticks of Butter
This movie really had some nice characters. I
thought that even though the movie did not really develop any of them their
banter and wit was enough to make them interesting to watch. The main female
role (I don't recall her name at the moment) was actually written fairly well
considering her surroundings. However some of her lines were rather pathetic and
should have been changed to enhance the film. The captain was fairly
entertaining and I would have liked to see more of him. As for the
"hero" of this film. He was cute, but annoyed the Hecla Island out of
me. The actor made the most of the role, but the roll was not all that good.
Overall Impressions - 2.5 Sticks of Butter
I enjoyed the characters in this movie, but that
was really about all. I sat through it hoping that it would get better and it
never really did. There were many cheesy lines (and while I like cheese that was
not enough to keep me enthralled), and some of the fate of certain characters I
liked did not please me. The Russian/American element was cute but poorly
implemented and the scene changes looked like something a novice Music Video
maker would do...that or someone who liked to play with PowerPoint! So the movie
is barely a pass in my books. If you have nothing better to do and there are
only romantic comedies available to rent...you might want to go for the romantic
comedy...but if you abhor those then you won't die from watching this film. It's
better than a root canal...it doesn't last as long.
