"It takes all kinds of critters to make Farmer Vincent's fritters." - Front Cover

Summary

"Veteran actor Rory Calhoun stars as the delightfully fiendish Farmer Vincent in a deliciously ghoulish tale of the macabre that has now become a cult classic. "Meat is meat, and man's gotta eat" That was always granny's philosophy. And that's the way folks still think over at the Motel Hello where Farmer Vincent mixes up his special blend of smoked meats. Heck, everybody in th ecounty just loves Farmer Vincent's sausages and hams-there's nothin' quite like 'em. But pray tell, what's that we've heard about strangers just disappearing after passing by Vincent's motel? And what are those odd things planted in Vincent's "secret garden" that he tends to only at night? And, gosh, what are those strange carcasses Vincent has hangin' in the smoke-house? The Motel Hello is open for business, folks. But if you're asked to stay for dinner, you may want to think twice!" - Back Cover

Soundtrack - 0 Sticks of Butter

The reason I rate this movies soundtrack is because, frankly speaking, I cannot remember if there was one, and I watched this movie this morning. Either the movie's soundtrack blended in so well with the movie that I never noticed one, the tape was recorded in stereo so I could not here it through my lovely Mono television set, or the soundtrack was so abhorrent that I blocked it from my memory. Regardless I cannot remember the soundtrack so the rating stays!

Plot - 3.5 Sticks of Butter

Ah, what can I say about this movies plot? ... It was no Killer Klowns from Outer Space, however it was mildly entertaining...okay so the story might be considered "disturbing" to some novice cheesy movie goers, but I am a Master of Cheese. This said, the movie was not so stimulating as to get a rating beyond 3.5. Having previously worked in the hospitality industry I could relate to this movie, after all who wouldn't want to come out with their own line of smoked meats after working at a Hotel/Motel for a day or two. After my second evening on the job I had all too many ideas floating around in my head.

Characters - 3.5 Sticks of Butter

While I enjoyed the characters Terry pissed me off (for reasons I cannot write lest I spoil the movie for y'all), I was always rooting for Farmer Vincent whom I believe was a all around swell guy not like his brother, a man who is willing to do anything to get what he wants....even LIE!!

Overall Impressions -  3 Sticks of Butter

This movie was made in 1980 a time before horror movies really came into their own and it does show. The ideas are there but not implemented quite as well as they could have been. I do not believe this movie was a high budget film, but when watching cheese one tends to hope for a low budget, however I do believe the producers should have splurged on better lighting. While night scenes should be filmed in quasi darkness the viewer should still be able to see the characters clearly. I do not detract too many points for this though, after all the lighting was not nearly as bad a Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
