In 1999 I entered my communities Queen Pageant (my
crowning moment, amazing since I did not receive a
crown).
The purpose for my entering - to Frompé in front of
a large audience (that was my talent). I don't think
many people knew what to think of it. A Frompé for those
of you who do not know is where you dance around while
mouthing the words to a song, while wearing an ugly
outfit and make over-the-top hand gestures. I wore an
ugly peach dress (I believe it was a bridesmaids dress,
it had been in a store window for over 10 years, I saw
it as a child and said one day I would own that dress,
now I do). It had been discounted to $19.99 from
something like $395. I left the tags on the
outfit. That's an integral part of the Frompé. The music
I Frompéd to was Mr. Roboto by STYX. Needless to say I
did not win the competition. Such a shame really, no one seems to
understand my art.
The Frompé was originally created
as I attempted to show Mootha how this one girl in my Choir class sang. She did
not dance around but she swayed while she flailed her arms about, and stuck her
lips out like a duck beak. There was nothing wrong with her, she just had a
unique singing style. My rendition of her went over so swimmingly that I started
dancing around rather than just swaying. As I enjoy the musical styling of STYX
I decided to choose Mr. Roboto to do this too. Perhaps you may find it cruel but
as I was only demonstrating her style to Mootha I figured it was a-okay. After
that I turned it into something almost magical.
As you can see the Frompé is a
thing of beauty, grace and style. It is truly the highest art form imaginable.
The screen shots below are from the actual pageant.
