The Extra Snowdrift

Here is the picture of the two dollar
coin with the extra snowdrift in the background. You can see it below the
white arrow, under proper light it shows up brilliantly. I found this on
the first day of issue, February 19 1996, while waiting to read the rec.collecting.coins
news group. Needless to say I had something to post asap. I managed
to find 14 here in Portage MB and there have been aproximately 40 more
found by others in Winnipeg. It appears that these were only in the early
minting as there hasn't been any show up in the later dated cases. From
what I hear, you will be able to read about it in the Canadian Coin News
soon, maybe the next issue due out around the 30th of April (April 96).
I would offer a picture to compare it to but I ran out of space on my server,
so here is a link to the Royal Canadian
Mint . (April/96)
World Bi-metallic Collectors Club
Just recently I joined a great internet
coin collecting club that has members from around the world. It's called
the "World Bi-metallic Collectors Club" (WBCC) founded by Martin
Peeters of the Netherlands. It's focus is Bi and Tri metal coins, tokens,
and medals. Every week a very informative newsletter is e-mailed to all
members with info on the latest happenings in the Bi-metal world. There
is a web page
dedicated to the club authored by Rod Sell. Here you can join a chat
room to ask questions and a look at a page to see many of the coins
that we collect. A help desk
is also available courtesy Larry Friemel, if you have any questions.
Every two months an updated and comprehensive catalogue
is sent to everyone who wants one and to new members for US2$, a very good
deal. Martin has done a beautiful job of making a catalogue. There is a
list of members' collections so you can see what there is to trade and
also know what you have (if you want to send your list). Membership is
free and the so is the help and info, so if you are interested please join.

On the side...
Well I finally figured out a
way to scan the above coin with my page feed scanner. It didn't like it
much and a few rude noises were made, but I made it work. Don't try this
at home with your parents equipment kids, I understand this is a rising
cause of bodily harm, soon to overtake putting PB+J sandwiches in the VCR.
