Strong
volunteer support
In Canada, the
OCLF is run completely by volunteers. Kathy Knowles, the
volunteer director from Winnipeg, leads a team of volunteers who sort,
clean and pack books for shipment, and to handle annual appeals for
funds and related correspondence.
Lennard Corporation
of Calgary administers the financial records, issues tax receipts
and handles government-required documentation to maintain OCLF's charitable
status. A five-member volunteer board of directors meets annually
in Calgary.

Kathy
Knowles is the founder and Program Director. She is a graduate
in nursing from Queen’s University and lived in Ghana from 1989
to 1993. Now based in Winnipeg, she visits Ghana twice yearly to monitor
existing projects and to help initiate new ones.
Kathy Knowles' bio
In
Ghana, Florence Adjepong (l) and Emma Amoo-Gottfried,
both school headmistresses and directors of the OCLF, contribute sound
leadership and direction, by overseeing projects and enlisting financial
support from the Ghanaian community.
