KK LibraryKathy Knowles Community Library, Accra (1992)

This first ‘permanent’ library, was made from a 40-foot shipping container Literacy classes are popular and there is enthusiasm for the new computer lab. A three-week course in lay librarian training encourages other communities to initiate their own libraries. Scholarships are available for deserving members. (map and more information)

Nima LibraryNima Maamobi Gale Community Library, Accra (1998)

Literacy classes and numerous outreach activities are offered. These include a daily food program and scholarships for deserving members. (map and more information)

Mamprobi Gale Community LibraryMamprobi Gale Community Library, Accra (2001)

The library is known for its beautiful garden, which features a Ghanaian-carved statue of Winnie-the-Pooh bear! (map and more information)

Nungua LibraryNungua Community Library, Accra (2003)

The library overlooks the ocean and can accommodate 300 members at any time. Scholarships and a daily food program meet individual needs. (directions and more information)

Nima CentreNima Maamobi Community Learning Centre, Accra (2006)

The centre accommodates 200 in the reading hall and 250 in the multipurpose room. Free literacy classes and a full scale theatrical troupe make this an exciting hub in the community. Roger Amenyogbe, in the photo, a Ghanaian-born Canadian architect, designed the building. (Link)(map)

Goi LibraryKathy Knowles Community Library, Goi, one hour east of Accra (2008)

The library offers evening literacy classes and has a dynamic drama troupe. Scholarships are offered to deserving members. An adjoining guest suite accommodates visiting volunteers.

School for the BlindLibrary at the School for the Blind, Akropong, one hour northeast of Accra (2000)

The library room attracts many of the school’s 280 students with its excellent supply of Braille books and tactile educational toys. (photos)
