The Nima Maamobi
Community Learning Centre opens

On Saturday, November 18, 2006, the Nima Maamobi Community Learning Centre of Accra was commissioned. Hundreds gathered to celebrate this red-letter day – government officials, local chiefs, librarians, community members and friends from Canada. Children from six libraries joined in the festivities with lively cultural dancing, poems, songs from the Nima choir and a moving rendition of O Canada sung by the children of the Kathy Knowles Community Library.

The concept for the design of the centre is based on an open book, welcoming arms and the baobab tree under which community members would traditionally gather. Architect: Roger Amenyogbe
