GRUCHY, France - 7 june 1944

Normandy Campaign - A scenario for Rapid Fire.

Historical information:
After the landings in Normandy, when 3rd Canadian Infantry Division began it's push
inland toward Caen, its men found the vanguard of 12th SS Panzer Division. Newly
arrived in this zone of operations, lead elements of 12th SS were driving hard for the
beaches to force a wedge between the invading Allied forces.

The Battle:
The Canadian 9th Infantry Brigade, supported by the tanks of 27th armored regiment,
was tasked with the objective of the airport of Carpiquet when unexpectedly, they were
counterattacked by 25th regiment SS Panzergrenadier. In the close confines of the area
of Gruchy, the 2nd Motorized Battalion encountered the "North Nova Scotia Highlanders"
and their accompanying tanks, inflicting a hard lesson on the Canadians. The North Nova's
were nearly swept away by the violence of the attack. Only the participation of the reserves
and the intense obstruction of the artillery prevented the boys of the "Hitlerjugend" smashing
through the Allied lines.

The Scenario:

The Canadians are in column along the road leading to Carpiqet, with the tanks in the lead and
the infantry following. The Germans are lined up along the edges of the road. The first turn is up
to the Germans; they win if they succeed in occupying the hamlet of Gruchy by the 10th turn; at
least one figure in the first building of the village.

The Canadians win if they prevent the German victory conditions.
